Is it too early for Halloween fun?

Jon came up with a great Halloween costume idea for our two little Jack Russell dogs . . . Fred and Rainie.   He asked me to sew polar fleece wrappers (jackets, with velcro closures) for the dogs.

First, I bought a bag of Tootsie Rolls.  Dog Gone if I could remember what a Tootsie Roll wrapper looked like.  By the way, I highly recommend eating Tootsie Rolls while sewing.

Here are some photos showing the construction:

I hooped four 12" squares of chocolate colored Kona cotton on the embroidery machine and programmed a suitable font. The rest of the jacket wraps were constructed from chocolate, white, and orange-red polar fleece.

I took this photo while embroidering the 4th chocolate square.

Sewing applique sign onto the body of the wrap.

Dog gone--they turned out cute.

  1. It's never too early to start planning for Halloween. Those 'wrappers' are really cute, but I wish we could have seen one tried on, to get a better idea.

Looking forward to more Halloween fun and creativity from you later--Road to Parnassus

  3. Yes, it's too early to have the dogs photographed in their costumes.

Rainie had a quick audition with one of the wraps, but her short white barbed hairs stuck to the dark brown background. Then I had to clean it up with the sticky roller.

I'll post photographs of Fred and Rainie wearing their costumes at Halloween when we take our neighborhood Halloween walk.

Jon also plans to take the dogs for a car ride to the bank, where they always get a doggie biscuit treat.

Our Fred and Rainie are fun pets, but they keep me vacuuming daily. I hate dog hair--gross.
